This is the fifth of our Patchwork Pals series introducing children to history & quiltmaking. Our Daughter of the Homestead is Luna Warner, who traveled West on a train with her parents & little brother. Designed by Jean Stanclift & Barbara Brackman, this pattern includes three quilts & a doll, all interesting enough to attract the experienced quiltmaker but with simple instructions to help the beginner achieve success. Prairie Fire is a dramatic two-color interlocking star quilt that measures 72" x 99". If you use squares & rectangles to make the star points, you will produce enough extra sawteeth to sew into blocks for another quilt, Firefly, measuring 71" square. Luna is a 14" doll with dress, apron & yarn hair. The third quilt is Love Letters, with its appliqued alphabet set inside patchwork stars & measuring 52" x 46". Makes a great wall hanging, baby gift or quilt for a child just learning their letters, which are included in this quilt pattern. Designed by Karla Menaugh
